Trekking Tour

It takes a 3-hour flight from Ulaanbaatar to Bayan-Ulgii. Your guide and driver pick you up and bring you to the city center to show you the museum, the local market, and craft shops. After having lunch we will head to Tavan Bogd National Park where you can see the rugged peaks of the Altai mountains, and archaeological sites that belong to the Bronze Age. On the way, we will pass a small village “Tsengel” which is a community of Kazakh and Tuvan people. Then we will keep driving to Tavan Bogd National Park passing Shiveet-Khairkhan sacred mountain which is the home of ibex and wild goats. We will meet our horse guides who support us with camels and horses at the campsite. At night stay in a tent. (L/D/Tent)

After breakfast, we start walking to the base camp through the valley to get to the snow-capped Tavan Bogd base camp and the impressive Potanin Glacier - seeing both the Potanin and Alexander glaciers. The 20km long Potanin glacier runs down from the highest mountains of Mongolia and is an excellent base for trekking and climbing the surrounding peaks. On the way, we will stop to have our lunch and enjoy the landscape view. After getting to the campsite, you can go sightseeing. There we will camp for the night. (B/L/D/Tent)

Today, we will take another way downhill to the Tsagan Gol Valley to the Ranger station. On the way, we will stop to see Ovoo which is Mongolian biggest worship place. After setting up the campsite, we will visit the Tuvan family and sample their dairy products, their special milk vodka distilled from yak milk. At night in the tent (B/L/D/Tent)

Today, we will continue our trekking to the Shiveet Mountain with its stunningly beautiful blue lakes, 4000 m high snow-capped mountains, glaciers, and an area rich in archaeological sites. We will also see petroglyphs which is our lunch stop. After lunch, we will trek for 3 more hours depending on our walking speed. We will pitch our tent. (B/L/D/Tent)

We will have a challenging day crossing over the 3100m mountain pass. (the pass is snow-covered during the colder seasons) After the pass, we will see waterfalls as we walk downhill to the bottom. Our campsite is in a valley called Bear Valley surrounded by forest, streams, and rivers. If you are lucky, you may see any wild animal (A day off is possible here according to your time) . We can keep our trekking through the forest to Akh Su Valley – an open space different from the previous days. During the trek, we will walk along the green lake where nobody wants to miss taking photos. (B/L/D/Tent)

From Aksu to Khoton (Pelican) Lake we will trek for 6-7 hours including the stop for lunch. We will set up camp on the shores of Khoton Lake and there we can visit Kazakh family. From the campsite, we can see a snowcapped mountain which is a wall for the border line of Mongolia and China. Our drivers will be waiting for us here. In the evening we can have a campfire as a team. (B/L/D/Tent)

After breakfast, we will drive back to Bayan-Ulgii. On the way, we will visit the Eagle Hunter family and share their experiences. We will have dinner at the restaurant. Stay in a hotel. (B/L/D/hotel)
